polka dots

I'm writing the introduction for the new issue of kill author. It'll be out in April. I went to the drug store the other day to buy a tin of Altoids Sours, only to discover that they no longer make them. The only place to get them now is on ebay, at inflated prices. This situation is intolerable, and I am not amused. I went to the University District with a couple friends yesterday. We spent about an hour at Bulldog News. They sell so many magazines, it's astonishing. They had Italian Vogue, French Vogue, Russian Vogue, Indian Vogue, British Vogue, and, naturally, American Vogue. I found another magazine, I forget what it was called, but it was about surfing and extreme kayaking. There was an article about surfers in New York City. On our way back to my car, we stopped in a vintage clothing store, and my friend bought a polka dot dress. She is a construction worker. I just read the new Stephen King book, "11/22/63". It was pretty good. I mean, it was entertaining. I'm currently reading "Let the Great World Spin" by Colum McCann. When I finish that, I think I will read either "Under the Volcano" or "The Sheltering Sky." Decisions, decisions. Also, I picked up a copy of the winter issue of Zyzzyva at Bulldog News, along with a postcard of Edward Hopper's painting, "Automat." The subject of the painting is returned to again and again in the novel I am currently working on. I don't plan to send the card to anyone. It's for me. I'm going to try and update this blog more frequently, and with more content than just links to my latest published works.

Edward Hopper, Automat
